ARCTIC TASTE

Spread the love

Jungles homeplace is still more or less like it was when he grew up. No roads, no electricity, no people (even fewer then eariler), and no shops. So to be here we need to catch our own food if we want to spend time there.

After Jungle catching greyling I gathered some plants from the wilderness. Most of the plants in the arctic are eatable – as in non-toxic, so I am experimenting a bit with the Arctic flavours.

I gathered juniper, crowberries, leaf of yarrow, leaf of lingon-, blue, and crowberry.  I didnt actually use these leaves and berries like we would use spices and seasoning. We didnt actually eat them, but just let them simmer in the pan while cooking to give taste to the fish. The leaves and the juniper is not that easy to eat. They are hard and poking.

I also used some salt and peppermix, and butter in a pan. The fish tasted really good! It did get a fresh taste of the Arctic wilderness! I am definately doing this again! I will not forget this amazing taste for a loong time!
