JOTUNHEIMEN – HOME OF THE JOTNER

The area with the highest mountains of Scandinavia is named Jotunheimen and is located in southern Norway.

Jotunheimen means: The home of the Jotner. Jotner is a word from the old norse mythology, that used to be translated into giants. But when more spiritual people have reviewed the old texts it has become more clear that that’s not a good translation.

According to the old norse mythology the world was divided in different roams. Primarily 3. Asgård, the home of the Asar. Midgård, the home of us humans. And Outgård, the home of the Jotner.

A lot of the old norse legends talks about encounters between the Asar and the Jotner. Dangerous encounters, sometimes violent and war like. Sometimes you can get the impression that the Jotner where evil. 
But if you study the legends more you see that that’s not really the case. Many of these encounter where actually peaceful. Although there was always present an element of possible danger. The Jotner where hard or impossible to trust.

Instead of evil the Jotner where ancient trixters, way older than us and the Asar. Highly unpredictable and with enormous powers. Many times creating chaos. Especially for us in Midgård. While the Asar where doing their best to bring order in the chaos. To protect us and themselves.
So a more shamanic interpretation of what Jotner really where/are is that they represent the primordial forces of the nature. Such as: Earthquakes, volcanos, floods, extreme climatic changes, like the ice ages, the moving of the continents through out the history of Earth and so on.

The former translation of the word Asar into Norse gods is also somewhat questionable. They where called Asar, not gods.

The famous writer Graham Hancock talks about that there are legends of floods and cataclysms in the ancient times, all over the world. The bible is just one example of many similar ones. Many of these legends talks about a people that where some sort of super humans or better said: super shamans, with advanced wisdom, technology and highly advanced shamanic skills/magic. And they helped and educated other surviving humans after this time of natural cataclysms.
In Peru for example they talk a lot about the mysteries Incas with blond hair and beards that initiated the Inca empire.

Here in the nordic countries we talk about the Asar.
Who they really where, there are many theories about. That they came from Atlantis or Mu or Antarctica. Well, there are more theories…
And one day maybe we will learn the truth about their origin.

Not long ago I visited Jotunheimen for the first time. When entering the area of Jotunheimen I understood very clearly why its called the home of the Jotner. 
I had already traveled over a month trough the spectacular and beautiful mountains of Western Norway. So it was not that Jotunheimen was more beautiful than other mountain areas.
But the energy was very different. There you can feel an older, stronger and «deeper» energy. The frequency is different than anything I ever felt on my journeys around the world.
Jotunheimen is definitely a place I will visit again. There is more wisdom to be discovered there.
